Public
Speaking Fear:
How to get rid of it!
Fear
of public speaking is different than stage fright.
Stage
fright is what happens when you're "on stage"
but fear of public speaking is a generalized fear
you have.
Fear
of public speaking is a real talent. That may
strike you as strange, but it's true!
Fear
of public speaking is a talent because you create
fear when there's no danger present. In other
words, here are sitting here reading this article
with no danger to you at all.
But
then just thinking about getting up in front of
people scares the daylights out of you.
The
first step to getting rid of fear of public speaking
is discovering exactly how you "do"
fear of public speaking. That fear doesn't come
out of nowhere, it comes from you making some
kind of pictures in your mind or saying something
to yourself.
You're
probably telling yourself dis-empowering messages.
Or you're probably making pictures of failure
in your mind.
Or
maybe it's both - maybe you play movies in your
mind of you failing terribly. Some people create
fear of public speaking by picturing the audience
laughing at them, or getting up and walking out,
or sometimes they even picture the audience as
giants towering over them in a menacing scary
manner.
You
need to stop and discover what your "fear
trigger" once you do that you can "mess
up" that fear trigger using any of my "messing
up fear of public speaking techniques" -
but the first step is to get 100% clear about
what your fear trigger actually is.
